Independent department stores chain Morleys will open a new store in Bexleyheath, the North Kent suburb that is part of the Greater London catchment area, next month, before Easter.

Morleys will be opening in Bexleyheath before Easter

The 90-year-old company, which has eight other department stores and a turnover of around £90m a year, will take over the site vacated after the failure of the giant BHS chain last summer.

Morleys, which operates mainly in and around the London area, sells a mix of premium, affordable-middle and mass-market brands including Radley, Levi’s, Wallis, Superdry, Oasis, Moss Bros, Clinique and Benetton.

The new store is in the Broadway Shopping Centre and covers 40,000 sq ft with a full offer of women’s, men’s, kids, beauty, interiors, electrical, stationery and dining across two floors. It will employ 100 staff and will be managed by Sophie Cassat, who also managed the BHS department store there.

The Broadway Shopping Centre is one of the largest in Southeast London/North Kent and attracts 9.5m visitors a year.

Morleys has recently also redeveloped its Camp Hopson Department & Home store in Newbury, Berkshire.
