Moncler launches latest Simone Rocha Genius collection

Fresh from announcing yet another leap in sales, Moncler has launched its latest Genius collection with British designer Simone Rocha’s vision debuting in-store.

Moncler

The designer, known for her ultra-feminine aesthetic, “explores the world of gardens and gardening” in her collection, “interpreting Moncler’s idea of function in a true sophisticated way – a literary, stylised and imaginary one.”

Her collections for the label have always been interesting given that she probably faces the biggest challenge of all the Genius designers (maybe along with Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli) in adapting her signature style to the Moncler look.

Her collection features more bulky silhouettes than the two previous Rocha collections for the label (very bulky for some pieces, underlining the strength of the giant duvet coat trend at the moment). The designer has used ultra-lightweight nylons, dolmias and taffetas, but also PVC and tulle.

She’s “devised romantic, airy silhouettes swarming all over with flowers in bloom, flaps, embroideries and prints,” we’re told. “Springtime blooming, in her hands, becomes a 3D treatment of Moncler’s iconic jackets, blousons and parkas, merging decoration with functionality.”

The starting point is the Moncler Longue Saison duvet in sculptural silhouettes, that are twisted and decorated with pearls, sequins, flower prints, flower appliqué and hand embroidery.

There’s the current must-have piece, a trench-coat , but with voluminous, Rocha-style sleeves, while the gardening theme is highlighted by accessories and other add-ons such as PVC aprons, floppy-brimmed hats, flower-shaped goggles, foulards, ruffled bags, Wellington boots with broderie anglaise cut-outs and gardening gloves.
