Mod'Spé opens a branch in Slovakia

Mod'Spé is set to open a branch abroad for the first time, in Bratislava, Slovakia. Of course, the so-called fashion business school, owned by the French women's ready-to-wear apparel Federation, was already set for an overseas undertaking in China a few years ago but in the end it never happened.

The institution will open in Bratislava in September. It is the result of a partnership between Fabrice Raoul, an international fashion expert and former sales director of ready-to-wear brand Didier Parakian, and two Slovakian businesswomen, Sylvia Pavekova and Jana Lalova. The former works in the medical industry while the latter works in fashion and owns several stores.

Mod’Spé Paris Central Europe, its full name, was granted in October 2015 the licence to supply degree-level education in the Republic of Slovakia, in accordance with the law for higher education institutions. The academy will begin its activities in the 2016/2017 school year, offering training in fashion and apparel product management.

The 3-year programme, not two as in Paris, will be conducted in English, and one third of the teachers will come from Paris while two thirds of them will be locally recruited and trained. Modules for French classes are also planned.

This is the first initiative of its kind in Slovakia, featuring professional training that is closely linked with industry operators.

For Fabrice Raoul, the choice of Bratislava was not a random one. There is of course a relationship of trust between the partners, but also the fact that Bratislava lies 30 minutes away from Vienna, 2 hours from Budapest and 40 minutes from the Czech Republic. Evidently the aim is to attract a number of students from Slovakia, but also from neighbouring countries. "Within Slovakia, Bratislava is a major manufacturing location for German brands."

According to Daniel Wertel, the President of the French women's ready-to-wear apparel Federation and of Mod’Spé, the deal is the logical outcome of the trust between the partners and the will to expand Mod’Spé's scope outside of France. "There is a lack of managers in the Slovakian textile industry. The training we offer will thus be an asset for an industry that doesn't want to limit itself to a sub-contracting role."
