Millennials support smart office dress codes says survey

A new survey has found that despite the ongoing streetwear and athleisure wear movement, 76% of millennials prefer to leave their bomber jackets and sweatshirts at home and dress smart in the office.

This is according to new data from Savile Row Company, a London-based tailoring business, which found that 77% of millennials believe that those who dress smart are taken more seriously.

What’s more, only around a third think their workplace colleagues dress smartly enough already and would actually prefer to have an enforced dress code.

The results contrast with a trend towards more relaxed office dress codes, with the rise of start-ups and co-working spaces transforming the traditional workplace into a more casual space.

“Although historically our demographic has been the 35 plus male, we are seeing more purchases on our online store from the 25 – 34-year-old age group,” says Jeffrey Doltis, owner of The Savile Row Company. “For us, tailoring is timeless and a good suit can make the wearer feel and look great at any age.”

The survey also found that 28% of those surveyed consider dressing smartly as more important than being perceived as fashionable.
