Mexico will take measurements to protect itself from Trans-Pacific Partnership

Published

In order to protect local industries such as textiles, clothing and footwear, Mexico is planning to take measurements within the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement to avoid an excess of these products in the Mexican market, said R. Moses Kalach B., president of the business coalition that negotiates the deal.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership will create the world's largest free-trade zone across 12 negotiating countries - Manufactura MX

"We will not obstruct the trade or exclude a sector, but we will regulate volumes and access, and this is going to happen in many areas," said the businessman.

Additionally Kalach noted that the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement will not allow countries to exclude sectors from the free trade deal, but it will allow them to take other measurements.

Last week, trade ministers of 12 negotiating countries met in met in Maui, Hawaii in a last round of talks to reach an agreement for the TPP. Although expectations were running high, the negotiators failed to seal the deal.
