The key criteria for the awards are a directional and modern design, as well as a demonstrable expertise with fabric and textile innovation. Each of the finalists "set the bar high for creativity and innovation," Woolmark said.

They are: Agi & Sam from the British Isles, Jonathan Christopher from The Netherlands, Suket Dhir from India, P. Johnson from Australia, Munsoo Kwon from South Korea, and Siki Im from USA. Among the innovative techniques used are P. Johnson's teflon-covered merino wool, and Agi & Sam's process of applying colour yarn directly to cloth using needles to blend two materials into one.

The regional winners will compete in Florence, Italy, on 13 January 2016 at the Pitti Uomo trade show.
