Meghan Markle's wedding dress to go on display in new exhibition

Published
Aug 29, 2018

The pure white, boatneck gown designed by Clare Waight Keller and worn by Meghan Markle on her wedding day to Prince Harry will go on display at Windsor Castle in October alongside the Duke of Sussex’s wedding outfit.

They will be part of a new special exhibition called ‘A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ opening at Windsor Castle from 26 October until 6 January, and then showing at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh in the summer of 2019.

Visitors will be able to get a close look at Markle's wedding dress, created by the British designer Clare Waight Keller, who is artistic director at the French fashion house Givenchy. The Duchess and Waight Keller worked closely together on the design, hailed for its timeless and elegant silhouette.

Her five-metre long veil will be also on display. Made from silk tulle and embroidered with the flora of the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, it took a team of specialists hundreds of hours to create the design.

And the tiara the Duchess wore to hold her veil in place will be presented in public for the first time ever. The diamond and platinum bandeau tiara belongs to the Queen and features a detachable brooch of ten diamonds, surrounded by bands of smaller diamonds in geometric design.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Sussex will be represented by a frockcoat uniform of the Household Cavalry made by Savile Row tailors at Dege & Skinner. The uniform's single-breasted blue doeskin jacket has figured braiding of Regimental pattern on the stand-up collar and sleeves, and the trousers are made from a blue and black wool barathea and are fastened by a leather strap and buckle underneath the boot.

The uniform will not be the exact same one Prince Harry wore to the wedding in May, but an identical replica loaned by him.
