Marks & Spencer reshuffles womenswear team set-up

Marks & Spencer, the British high street retailer which recently reported another fall in quarterly underlying sales in its clothing division, has just announced that it has made changes to the way its womenswear teams are set up.

The changes affect the retailer's teams across both buying, design and merchandising, and as a result a couple of hundred people's roles have changed. Marks & Spencer says the changes puts the customer at the heart of the buying process.

An M&S spokesperson said: "Our womenswear teams are now organised by product type rather than by brand and range. This better reflects the way our customers shop with us and puts our customers' view at the heart of our product decision making."

"In simple terms, it means that there will be one team responsible for designing and buying all of one type of product for our customers. For example, all of our trousers, whether they are M&S Collection, Autograph or per una, will be bought by the same team."

The changes have not led to any redundancies at the retail giant, which has been focusing on its fashion customers lately, with the release of new collections under the "M&S &..." moniker.
