Maison Margiela's CEO, Gianfranco Gianangeli, is leaving. The information, published by the American magazine WWD, was confirmed by the luxury brand, owned by OTB. The company told us that its successor should be announced in the coming weeks.
The manager and the company have ended their collaboration by mutual agreement. Gianfranco Gianangeli has spent his career in the luxury sector, working for renowned brands. Starting at Bottega Veneta, where he worked in merchandising, he then moved to Prada before working at Givenchy as global director of the retail sales network.
In 2017, he left the big fashion houses to focus on his family's knitwear factory, Gianangeli Knitwear Factory, located in Perugia, Umbria, in the Italian high-end knitwear district. Five years later, in July 2020, he took over the reins of Maison Margiela, accelerating its growth.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the house's new headquarters at Place des Etats-Unis, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, he told FashionNetwork.com that he had "tripled the brand's sales in three years." In fact, Maison Margiela has become one of the main growth levers of the OTB group, owner of brands such as Diesel, Marni, Victor & Rolf and Jil Sander among others.
The brand, which has been led since 2014 by John Galliano as creative director, remains the group's most important label in terms of sales in the luxury sector, and saw its turnover jump by 24% last year compared to 2021.
