A London-based fashion manufacturing studio has secured a £39k funding package from NatWest to invest in new machinery and talent.

MAES London was founded in 2018 by Diana Kakkar, who previously worked as a pattern and sample room coordinator at Erdem, and Joshua Rosario. It specialises in samples and small production runs for high-end brands and independent designers, and counts Erdem and Rejina Pyo among its clients.

According to a report from B Daily, the funds have been used to acquire six industrial sewing machines, an industrial iron and a fuse press, as well as hire new staff. The studio currently employs 12 people.

Co-founder Diana Kakkar said: “We want to bring manufacturing back to East London by offering designers a fashion-led studio that understands the quality they require, respects their ambition and can help them to achieve their vision.

“East London was renowned for manufacturing and from our base in Bethnal Green, we want to be part of its revival, encouraging people to support local businesses, fair wages and sustainability.”

The business said that the money will go towards supporting its expansion, whether that is fulfilling smaller orders, supporting UK designers or extending its reach globally.

Luke Pamflett, business growth enabler at NatWest, added: “The continued growth of MAES London is evidence of Diana and Joshua’s expert knowledge of their services and their market.

“NatWest has provided funding and expert advice to help them grow their business and we will continue to support them as they expand further over the coming years.”
