Lush reveals plans for Trump-inspired hair product

Published
Feb 27, 2017

Lush is poking fun at Donald Trump via its newest hair-care product, announced at Lush’s yearly summit.

Lush's "Yuge" hair products - Lush

Titled “Yuge, (a tongue-in-cheek nod to Trump’s pronunciation of ‘huge’), the Trump-inspired product is a voluminizing hot oil hair treatment. The bright-blue product contains jojoba oil, olive oil, honey, sea salt, and pineapple.  While Lush hasn’t explicitly said the product references the American President, they did state it was inspired by “an orange-faced, tiny-handed man,” in a press release.

The product is not yet available for purchase.

Lush has been a strong advocator for diversity throughout its 21-year history as a brand. Lush stands by its mantra that it is a “safe space for everyone regardless of immigration status, gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion or political affiliation.” In addition, the beauty brand looks to real models of all sizes and backgrounds for its advertising.

Brands all over the world have been looking to their products to help make a statement on the current American political climate. Last week at London Fashion Week, Gareth Pugh presented a dystopian collection of clothing,  shown to a soundtrack of Trump repeating the phrase “build the wall”. At New York Fashion Week, Public School showed a parody of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats. Prabal Gurung presented graphic t-shirts with feminist statements emblazoned on them. A handful of brands, Reformation and Married to the Mob among them, are peddling t-shirts with feminist statements in support of Planned Parenthood. Even the CFDA is looking to make a statement, handing out pro-Planned Parenthood buttons at NYFW events.
