Louis Vuitton ups its bet on the Spanish market, opens third store in Madrid

Galería Canalejas is strengthening its position as Madrid's new luxury mecca (with the permission of the Salamanca district) and is adding Louis Vuitton to its offer. The French house has opened its third boutique in the city,  inside the shopping center.

"For a maison like Louis Vuitton, a brand with such a passion for contemporary creation, Madrid is also an artistic center in perpetual effervescence, and the store is located a few steps from the prestigious Art Triangle, formed by the El Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofia museums," the brand explained.

Louis Vuitton first landed in the Spanish capital in 1988 with the opening of its boutique on Ortega y Gasset Street. In addition to its recently opened store, the brand has another one in Serrano Street and a point-of-sale in El Corte Inglés on Paseo de la Castellana.

The new space houses the brand's ready-to-wear collections for women and men, its leather goods, accessories and footwear as well as travel items, a hallmark of the brand since its founding.

Architecturally, the store's design reflects Peter Marino's global store concept that the brand extends to its boutiques. The Galería Canalejas store pays tribute to Madrid with the use of red, blue and yellow, in reference to the colors of the city's flag.

The store's interior features high ceilings, large volumes, meticulous use of light and works of art, such as two paintings by Spanish artist Fernando Daza. The single-story boutique can be accessed from a single entrance inside the shopping center.

At its new location in Madrid, Louis Vuitton will be joining other luxury brands present in Galería Canalejas, such as Hermès and Cartier. Over the last few weeks, several premium and luxury brands have decided to invest in the Spanish market, such as Hermès, with its new location in Barcelona, and Ralph Lauren, which has also set up shop in the Spanish capital.

The French fashion house also has stores in Marbella, Malaga, Palma, Barcelona and Valencia in Spain. Founded in Paris in 1854, Louis Vuitton is the French luxury group LVMH's flagship brand. The conglomerate owns more than 70 brands and, in the third quarter of the year, exceeded forecasts with a 19% increase in sales.
