London’s Design Museum to open Cartier exhibition this week

Published
May 24, 2017

A new exhibition paying tribute to Cartier and its watchmaking tradition is opening at the Design Museum in London on 25 May.

Curated by renowned British architect Norman Foster, the exhibition ‘Cartier in Motion’ tells the story of Cartier watchmaking and the invention of the modern wristwatch whilst exploring the change in society at the turn of the 20th century. Six main themes help transport guests into a moment in time when upheavals began to disrupt art, architecture, travel and lifestyles, paving the way for a new world.

170 pieces will be on display from the Cartier collection as well as loans from the collection of the Monaco Princely Palace, the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace at Le Bourget airport and the Rockefeller Center in New York.

Extracts from a scrapbook found in the Cartier Archives complement the exhibition with insights into the research work of designers at the French luxury company.

The free exhibition will run until 28 July 2017.
