Kingpins24 returns with a digital edition
International denim trade shows may be able to resume with physical editions come autumn. However, this spring season, the industry must be content with digital format editions to discover new launches in the sector and keep up-to-date with trends.
The new, three-day edition of Kingpins24 kicked off on Tuesday. The trade show, traditionally held in Amsterdam, features product presentations and conferences on new developments and trends for the autumn/winter 2022 collections.
Kingpins has also set up its Kingpins On-Demand platform from April 21 to May 7, which will facilitate the organisation of livestreams. A number of big names including Calik Denim will give presentations on the platform. Specially tailored content such as an interview with Nicolas Prophte, vice president of denim sourcing and innovation at Tommy Hilfiger, and a conference titled ‘Leading climate action in the denim industry’ will also feature.
For the digital event, the organisers have created themed days with around 15 speech events. On Tuesday, April 20, the topic is ‘Inspiration’ with a number of talks planned from 1pm to 4pm. The conference on the circular economy in denim at 2pm on Tuesday is not to be missed and features presentations by the teams at Artistic Milliners, Vicunha, Artistic Fabric Mills, and Lycra. At 3:10pm, Amy Leverton from Denim Dudes will present on the trends for autumn/ winter 2022.
On April 21, Kingpins24 will tackle the themes of innovation and technology. Following a series of presentations on innovations in hemp and polygene, a discussion on the technologies behind the future of denim will take place at 2pm with participation from Advance Denim Browzwear and Kilim Group.
Tencel will give a presentation on indigo then Lycra will take the opportunity to highlight its new cutting edge launches. “Our ‘Lycra Freef!t’ technology is our innovation of patented and patent pending yarns and fabrics which provide optimal elasticity, elastic recovery, and retraction properties to adapt to a wider range of body types,” said Steve Stewart, director of innovation at Lycra.
During the afternoon, Foison Textile, Jeanologia, Beximco, and Wiser Tech will give presentations on their latest innovations.
Finally on April 24, on the occasion of World Earth Day, a discussion will focus on leading climate action in the denim industry at 1:10pm. At 2pm, a round table will present progress towards and current projects to reduce the use of water in the sector. Then, a range of businesses including Cone Denim, Vicunha, Iskur Denim, and Lubrizol will address the topics of material circularity and waste management.
