The house of Karl Lagerfeld has unveiled its debut eco-conscious collection with Amber Valletta, with part of the sustainably chic collection made from vegan cactus leather.

The debut capsule consists of 11 products – ranging from soft bags and reusable water bottles to zip wallets and a face mask – and befitting, the brand’s policy of little pain at the cash register, prices range from €49 to €395.

“To see it all coming together is a great achievement and honor. I am convinced Karl would have loved it,” said the veteran super model in a release.

Its key look is a K/Kushion bag, inspired by a tailor-made cushion that Lagerfeld took with him on his world travels. Made in vegan cactus leather, cultivated with no herbicides or pesticides, the pleated bags are dyed with organic pigments. A second version is made in recycled cotton, certified by the Global Recycle Standard.

A subsequent collection will include ready-to-wear. Though in a launch campaign shot in a desert, Amber already dons pale green 'KL'-logo jeans; a swish pantsuit and a crisp, white cotton summer shirt-dress.

Entitled Karl Lagerfeld X Amber Valletta, the collection launches April 8 exclusively on Karl.com and Zalando. And, a day later, in the global chain of Karl Lagerfeld stores on April 9.

Part of the profits from the collab’ will be made as an independent donation to The Ocean Cleanup, a charity aimed at riding the world’s oceans of plastic.

“The collaboration shows that we don’t have to sacrifice great style to make responsibly made fashion,” added the 47-year-old Valletta, who hails from Phoenix, Arizona.

Besides appearing on the cover of American Vogue 13 times, Valletta is currently the first ever named Sustainability Contributing Editor for British Vogue.
