The announcement comes six months after the departure of former chief creative officer Gemma Metheringham, who stepped down from the role to join high street brand Next as creative director.

Stainer has a strong CV as a designer for some of the biggest names in UK retail and has been ready-to-wear product director at premium British fashion and footwear brand LK Bennett since December 2012. She is expected to join Karen Millen in the spring, according to reports.

Prior to LK Bennett, she served as womenswear design director for French Connection and as senior womenswear designer for Arcadia's directional Topshop chain.

Karen Miller CEO Beth Butterwick praised Stainer’s ability to develop collections that build “strong brand through real customer focus."

"Karen Millen is a design-led business with high-quality craftsmanship behind every piece we create, so we're thrilled someone of Tracey's calibre will be leading our design team as we focus on growing our global business and our understanding of local market needs," she said.
