The 93,000-square-foot Peterborough shop is in line for a £21 million revamp that will include an overhaul and reconfiguration of the entire space plus the addition of new services.

Customers can a new womenswear department on the upper ground floor, as well as a refreshed Beauty Hall with new brands and services. And a new external loading bay will improve access to a new collection point, making it easier for customers to collect their click & collect orders.

At the centre of the new store concept is John Lewis’ new personalised experiences and the revamped shop will offer plenty of these. An Experience Desk located on the upper ground floor will provide a concierge-style service, helping customers book a number of different services that will be on offer in the shop.

In the womenswear department there will be a Style Studio, where individual customers or groups can get styling advice and ideas from a team of personal stylists. And the Beauty Hall will feature a new beauty concierge-style service, with trained staff offering independent advice across the full range of brands.

“As retail is changing it is important for us to respond to the needs of our customers. The investment in the shop will create new and exciting experiences, while giving our customers in Peterborough a new level of personalised and curated shopping,” explained Gary Rowntree, head of branch at John Lewis & Partners Peterborough.

Due to be completed by January 2020, the new John Lewis store is one of several developments taking place at Queensgate shopping centre. The mall owned by Invesco Real Estate and managed by LendLease is also building a £60m extension that is opening in Autumn 2021.

“The £60m extension, anchored by a ten-screen Empire Cinema, will sit alongside new restaurant brands and bring further opportunities whilst position Queensgate as a significant retail and leisure destination,” said Guy Thomas, head of retail at Lendlease.
