John Lewis unveils hotly anticipated Christmas ad

John Lewis’ Christmas advert is finally here. The British department stores chain has launched its 2016 Christmas advertising campaign ‘Buster The Boxer’ on its website, social media channels and on Sky in an exclusive partnership.

A British family can be seen preparing the last details before Christmas morning. A mother tucks her daughter into bed, while her father sets up her present, a trampoline, in the garden. However, after dark, in a magical world observed only by Buster the dog, a cast of wildlife animals emerges. Two foxes, a badger, a squirrel and a hedgehog discover the trampoline and have fun jumping.

On Christmas morning, the little girl runs out into the garden to discover her present however Buster bounds past her and starts bouncing on the trampoline as she watches in astonishment.

The advert is set to a cover version of the song ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’, recorded by the British band Vaults.

Craig Inglis, Customer Director at John Lewis said; "2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile. It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels to give the perfect gift at Christmas.” 

John Lewis works each year with a charity partner which fits its ad concept, and this year’s campaign supports The Wildlife Trusts. John Lewis will make a donation to the charity from the sale of soft toys of the characters that feature in the advert.

As part of the seasonal campaign, the retailer will be also offering a virtual reality experience at its Oxford Street flagship store. The experience will bring to life the magical world of Buster and his friends.

Additionally, the UK retailer will be partnering with Snapchat to create a bespoke lense and with Twitter to offer bespoke stickers featuring Buster the Dog.
