John Lewis said sales were up 9.6% to £88.0m in the last week of September until 1 October. The year-on-year increase was driven by the cold weather, which boosted spending on new season ranges and the opening of a new shop in Chelmsford.

Home sales were up 7% on last year, with Furniture continuing its uptrend with a 9.5% increase and Lighting reporting a 12.2% increase.

EHT was bolstered by new product launches, and finished the week at 15.1%. Smart Home and Audio was up, and Mobile was boosted by the new iPhone launch, both helping the communications technology category to post an increase of 30.6%.
