John Lewis posts 11.5% sales increase in strong trading week
Jun 7, 2016
John Lewis, the British department store retailer, posted an 11.5% increase in sales, up to £82.2m, in the week to June 4.
The strong trading was helped by a rise in footfall during the half term holiday week, which fell a week later than in 2015. Fashion sales in the week were up 10.1%, helped by a "very good week" for beauty sales, which were boosted by the launch of Charlotte Tilbury in John Lewis Cardiff.
Paula Nickolds, commercial director at John Lewis, said: "Wellbeing and sports items also drove growth in this category, perhaps suggesting that customers are seeking to get in shape before their summer holidays."
The warmer weather helped outdoor living sales, which rose 45.4% year-on-year.
