Former Whistles CEO Jane Shepherdson has joined UK peer-to-peer wardrobe rental platform My Wardrobe HQ as its chairman in what marks her return to the retail world after a three-year break.

She is known for rejuvenating and transforming Whistles and previously, Topshop, into the desirable brands they are today.

Shepherdson left her position at Whistles in 2016 to work on charity projects after spending eight years at the helm of the premium British company.

During the time out, her interest in eco-friendly business models increased as she sought sustainable solutions to environmental issues, she told The Financial Times.

My Wardrobe HQ is a luxury fashion rental platform described as a “social community for buying, selling and renting designer items from people and profiles that you covet”.

It rivals Hurr Collective and By Rotation in their attempt to establish themselves as the go-to destination for fashion rentals as consumer attitudes towards rental services begin to shift.

My Wardrobe HQ is backed by around 25 angel investors, including Shepherdson, who has made a “small but significant” investment in the business.
