Despite many retailers choosing to close stores amid a worsening high street crisis, British clothing brand Jack Wills continues to move forward with its expansion strategy and has announced a new opening at Intu Metrocentre.

It follows recent openings at The Square, Camberley and in Intu Watford’s extension.

Shopping centre owner Intu said this week that Jack Wills has committed to a 3,873-square-foot store at the Gateshead mall, where G-Star Raw has also recently opened. A number of retailers including Quiz, Bodycare and Footasylum have also increased their store space at the shopping centre and Jack & Jones is due to open later this year.

Kate Grant, regional managing director for Intu, said: “We’re really excited to welcome another popular brand that is guaranteed to be a favourite amongst the center’s fashion-conscious customers.”

Jack Wills has several stores within Intu’s portfolio, including locations at Intu Lakeside, Intu Milton Keynes, Intu Trafford Centre, Intu Broadmarsh and Cribbs Causeway.

Neil Beaman, property director for Jack Wills, said: “Intu’s high footfall shopping centres within a wide catchment area have enabled us to generate fantastic results... Intu Metrocentre is another perfect location for us to reach millions of our customers across the region.”

Jack Wills’ expansion contrasts with the actions of some of Britain’s largest retailers, with Debenhams, House of Fraser and New Look among some of the retail chains announcing closures this year as a result of declining store sales.

Jack Will's new store at Intu Metrocentre is expected to open in November.
