Italian fashion industry launches Green Carpet Talent Competition for sustainable design

The 2017 Green Carpet Talent Competition organised by the Italian Fashion Chamber (CNMI) has officially kicked off. The competition is the first of a series of initiatives linked to the eco-sustainable fashion prizes first announced in Milan last February, The Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia. The talent competition is organised in partnership with UK consulting firm Eco-Age, and its first edition will be held in parallel with the Milan womenswear Fashion Week next September.

There will be three classes of awards: one to a selection of major Italian and international fashion labels, rewarded for their engagement in sustainability, and two others in recognition of the eco-responsible efforts of an artisanal manufacturer and a young emerging designer, who will be proclaimed the winner of the Green Carpet Talent Competition 2017.

Applications for the designer competition are open, and will close on 7th May. In a press release, CNMI has encouraged applicants to "create a look that pays tribute to made in Italy design and manufacturing, while upholding social and environmental values."

The competition focuses on menswear and womenswear only, and does not include accessories. "The collections must be produced in Italy and must strike a harmonious balance between ethics and aesthetics," wrote CNMI.

The jury will consist of industry experts and will be announced shortly. Ten semi-finalists will be selected on 23rd May, and they will have until 29th June to apply the finishing touches to their work.

Five finalists will then be chosen in early July, to vie for the Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia. The winner will be announced on the evening of the 24th September at the ecological fashion awards event at the renowned La Scala theatre in Milan, the temple of Italian opera.
