On Wednesday, Óscar García Maceiras, CEO of Inditex, stated that the Spanish apparel giant continues to “monitor” the situation in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, which forced the group to temporarily suspend its operations in Russia. The latter will resume “as soon as possible, when conditions will allow it.”

Maceiras was visiting the University of A Coruña, Spain, where he signed an agreement on the hiring of researchers. At the subsequent press conference, he was asked about the group’s intentions in the face of the ongoing war.

“Our message remains unchanged,” he said. On March 5, Inditex informed the Spanish Securities Market Commission it was “temporarily suspending” its activity in Russia. The group operates over 500 stores in the country, where it also employs over 9,000 people. Due to the conflict, Inditex cannot “guarantee the continuity of its operations” in Russia.

Inditex is based in Arteixo, close to A Coruña, and owns among others brands like Zara, Bershka and Pull&Bear. According to Maceiras, the group has deployed a support plan for its staff, and has nothing further to add at this time.
