"Being the outdoor industry's voice [at EU headquarters] in Brussels, working with legislators to focus attention on and attract funding for the promotion of outdoor activities." These are the stated objectives of IGOT. The new organisation, whose name is the acronym of 'It's Great Out There', is backed by the European Outdoor Group (EOG), the confederation of Europe's outdoor industry businesses, and was presented at the ISPO sport trade show in Munich. IGOT is based in Brussels and its declared objective is to act as the industry's lobbying platform with Europe's decision-makers. EOG recently joined the European Commission's register of interest representatives, set up to promote transparency, and IGOT is a direct emanation of EOG.

'It's Great Out There' moved from event planning to lobbying in Brussels - Carola Bader

The name 'It's Great Out There' originally comes from a campaign launched by EOG in 2015, to raise the general public's awareness of the benefits of outdoor activity. After the campaign, IGOT’s team began to organise events in Europe. The next step was to bring together the industry's businesses and lobby for them with the EU authorities. IGOT's 12 founding members are: the AS Adventure, Jack Wolfskin and McTrek Outdoor Sports retailers, the ISPO trade show and the OLA association, and the Keen, Mammut, Marmot, Merrell, Ternua, Schuster and The North Face brands.

The organisation's other objectives include the creation of campaigns promoting outdoor activity in Europe, and providing tools for the industry to help set up specific events.
