Howard Hughes Corporation will partner with WWD to open a concept store for young, emerging designers to show their brands. The Seaport Studios concept store will house independent designers and contemporary brands. It will not be confined to strictly fashion; the store will be a mecca for fashion, design, art, and food.

The 5,000-square-foot, two-level store will feature the brands and a coffee bar on the first level and a lounge and art gallery on the second level. The Guild Group designed store will be the latest fashion fixture to enter the area.

Larger companies, Victoria's Secret, J. Crew, and Superdry, to name a few, have had stores in the South Street Seaport section of Manhattan for some time, while recently Gilded Age, Brother Vellies, Whisper Editions, and Modabox moved to the neighborhood. The latest brand, William Okpo will set up shop in April 2015. In September 2014, Modabox held a public fashion show with Howard Hughes Corp. to kickoff NYFW and to celebrate the launch of moda-box.com.

Seaport Studios is just the beginning of a three-year-plan from Howard Hughes Corp. The company plans to revamp Pier 17 in a re-envisioned Seaport District. The District is a response to the expansion of Downtown Manhattan that has seen 18 new store openings and an increase in residents to 68,000 today from 24,000 in 2000.

Seaport Studios will open in mid-June.
