Luxury brand House of Tengri has unveiled a limited edition series of Yukata gowns in conjunction with luxury loungewear brand Gownsmith, “in a choice of some of the rarest cloth in the world”.

Over five years in the making, the collection is crafted with fibres of the Khangai Yak, while maintaining “the gold standard of sustainable practice” and also “embodying the essence of Tengri’s spirit, where rarity, craftsmanship, heritage and functionality collide”.

The collaboration is underpinned by House of Tengri founder and Creative Director Nancy Johnston and her quest “for the ultimate multifunctional gown with the wearability of a robe or coat and unisex styling”.

Taking inspiration from the functionality of gowns and robes from a range of Asian influences, “Johnston has translated the utility, romance, and design cues, from the Japanese Haori coat, into a modern and fundamental luxury wardrobe asset”.

The Yukata series comes in Tengri’s signature undyed cloths in the mineral-rich palette of Mongolia’s Khangai terrain. The first series includes Yukata I in ‘Rare Earth’ hopsack, a limited edition run of five, and with only 10 pieces of each of the following; Yukata II in ‘Cocoa’ hopsack; Yukata III in ‘Camel’ flannel; and Yukata IV in a herringbone blend of Khangai yak with the rare fibres of British Bluefaced Leicester.

Each piece is finished with blue piping “to honour the roots of its journey and ‘Tengri’ - Mongolia’s Sky God”. The Yukata series starts from £1,250.
