Campaigners at Humane Society International UK said on Friday House of Fraser has removed real fur items from its website and stores after facing a backlash from outraged consumers.

The department store group started selling real fur again for the first time in over a decade following Sports Direct’s takeover earlier this year.

Jackets made by Parajumpers, Pyrenex and Mackage using animal fur were found in stock at the company’s stores and online last week.

House of Fraser confirmed its long-held fur-free policy had changed in October, sparking a wave of protests from animal rights activists and ethical consumers.

According to Humane Society International, store managers at House of Fraser’s Oxford Street announced on Friday morning that all real fur has been removed and there is currently no real fur available on the shop floor at any House of Fraser sites nationwide

Claire Bass, UK executive director of Humane Society International, said she was “delighted” to hear the news. “British shoppers have sent the message loud and clear that fur is bad for business, and has no place on the British high street. We urge House of Fraser to publicly reinstate and uphold its long-standing fur-free policy.”

Sports Direct was approached for comment.
