David Walker-Smith will be joining the premium department store group on 12 March, replacing Maria Hollins, who has stepped down to pursue new opportunities.

Walker-Smith has worked in retail, buying and merchandising for more than 20 years. His CV includes a three year period as Managing Director of luxury department store Fenwick’s, after serving as Executive Buying and Merchandising Director for Beauty, Menswear and Home at Selfridges for 16 years. At House of Fraser, Walker-Smith will focus on finding and building commercial opportunities and brand partnerships as well as further develop House Brands.

Alex Williamson, Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of David Walker-Smith as Chief Product and Trading Officer. David has had a stellar retail, buying and merchandising career to date.

“Our ability to attract an individual of David‘s calibre is a real testament to our ambitions for growth in the UK. David’s appointment adds additional strength to our leadership team and he will play an instrumental role in delivering key elements of the Transformation Programme.”

Walker-Smith said the role is “an opportunity to enhance the overall experience” of House of Fraser, and that he will be looking to collaborate and innovate with brands to build unique customer propositions.
