The Skelmersdale-based firm is one of Britain's largest shoe manufacturers, and it operates 80 stores across the UK and Europe.

Watson is due to join the brand in March from children’s footwear label Start Rite, where he has been CEO since 2016. Prior to that, he was European managing director of German manufacturer Britax Childcare, according to the Business Desk.

Sarah Prowse, who became CEO of Hotter in 2016, commented: “I’m very sad to be leaving. Hotter is a great business and the brand has huge potential domestically and internationally.

“I am leaving in the knowledge that the business is set up well to compete in what is going to be a continued challenging retail market.”

Founded in 1959, Hotter is a footwear brand selling functional shoes with hidden features like flexible soles and underfoot cushioning for the over-55 demographic. It employs more than 1,200 people.
