Hong Kong – No.1 Shopping Destination

Published

It may not come as a surprise that Hong Kong has topped Global Blue’s poll on the best shopping destinations. Before adding Asian-Pacific to the mix, only Europe had been studied, with London coming out on top. Hong Kong came ahead of Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore for top Asian shopping destinations.

According to Hong Kong’s tourist office, tourists contributed more than 50.4 billion Hong Kong dollars, which equates to more than 5 billion euros, in the first quarter of 2012 alone.

So what does Hong Kong have on its competitors? Longer sale periods and safety on the streets, according to Global Blue, not to mention the plethora or luxury brands that have opened up in Hong Kong. Previously tourists were drawn to London for its luxury offerings, but hotel and transportation costs have reduced the allure of this former shopping paradise. Make no mistake about it, Hong Kong is a luxury shopping destination.
