A Derby shopping centre continues to build its premium credentials with the announcement that two aspirational brands, Hobbs and Whistles, will open there in the coming months.

The premium fashion retailers, both ultimately owned by South African clothing and homeware group The Foschini Group (TFG), will open on level two of Intu Derby, alongside the recently launched Boss store.

According to Intu, the owner of the shopping centre, residents in its core catchment have the highest disposable income compared to any other UK city. The data, based on research by personal finance firm Finder.com, makes the centre a leading destination for aspirational brands.

Nick Round, regional managing director at Intu, explained: “Aspirational retailers are continuing to open in the most popular destinations where they can be sure their stores will flourish and Intu Derby offers exactly the right location for the premium brands choosing to take space here.

“The centre has a strong retail and leisure mix, 22 million footfall and an affluent catchment boosted by the number of high-earning professionals working and living in and around Derby.”

Hobbs and Whistles are part of TFG’s London portfolio alongside Phase Eight, and have been led by new managing directors since the departure of Meg Lustman as Hobbs CEO. Justin Hampshire is now the head of Hobbs, while Helen Williamson is serving as managing director at Whistles.
