Spanish eyewear brand Hawkers is set to open its first UK store in Covent Garden, London this summer.

The first shop for the brand in the UK market will be located on the West Piazza, directly opposite St Paul’s Cathedral. For the brand, the store opening represents the first step towards establishing a presence on the UK high street, and a stepping stone to position itself in the premium segment in the world’s top cities, it said in a press release on Wednesday.

The move comes after the brand signed an agreement with UK investment and property firm Capital & Counties Property PLC (Capco). In its arrival to the UK shopping destination, which is visited by over 40 million people annually, Hawkers will join a lineup of leading labels such as Olivia Burton, Daniel Wellington, Tom Ford, Chanel, Godiva and For Art's Sake.

The Spanish eyewear company founded in 2013 is moving forward with its international expansion plans and retail strategy. It recently announced the opening of five new stores in the Canary Island, as well as a distribution deal with Portuguese denim brand Salsa to sell its sunglasses in Salsa stores. The firm’ retail business is growing alongside the wholesale channel, and is focused mostly on Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Italy. Currently, Hawkers has about 50 stores, including 38 in Spain, 10 in Portugal and two in Italy.
