The capital injection will go towards developing the handbag restoration and resale firm's technology and innovation, accelerate growth across the UK, and add to its senior management team. The latter includes appointing former CEO of Claire’s Accessories, Beatrice LaFon, as chair, and Ian Griffiths, founder of the WhoCanFixMyCar website, to its board as digital strategy consultant.

Additionally, the business will also create around 20 new jobs at its Burnopfield, County Durham, headquarters.

Handbag Clinic, which restores around 700 bags a month and resells around 300, including luxury brands Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Gucci, also operates stores on London’s King’s Road and in Leeds. Retail outlets also include concessions in Fenwick in Newcastle and Colchester, franchises in Europe and the Middle East, and an online platform.

Founder Charlotte Staerck said: “Despite the challenging trading conditions within the pandemic, we’ve enjoyed consistent growth and record online sales. We are excited to welcome both Beatrice and Ian onto the board – their unrivalled knowledge and expertise will add huge value".

She added: “They share our vision and, together with the new investment, can help us to realise our aggressive growth plans, taking Handbag Clinic to the next level”.

In Q2 2020, the company said it experienced a record 500% growth in online sales helping boost it to overall 306% year-on-year growth.
