Handbag brand Meli Melo launches crowdfunding campaign
Luxury leather handbag brand Meli Melo is trying to raise £700,000 in a crowdfunding campaign to finance its global growth ambitions and amp up its marketing activities.
With designs worn by celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevingne, the Duchess of Cambridge and Kate Bosworth, the brand said revenue has grown from £400,000 to £3.55m over the last five years.
Designed at its offices in London, the label sources and manufactures all handbags in Florence, Italy.
The campaign had raised almost £100,000 on Crowdcube on Wednesday morning, with 24 more days to go. The funding will be used to build a global presence, invest in product development and accelerate both the direct-to-consumer and wholesale businesses.
Meli Melo is preparing to launch its first men’s collection in October.
“We have a strong brand with beautifully crafted handbags and accessories. I believe there are amazing opportunities for Meli Melo at home and abroad to grow significantly,” CEO Douglas Ker told B Daily.
“We are joining a group of luxury businesses such as Mr & Mrs Smith, who currently have raised £2m via Crowdcube, in giving our customers a real piece of our brand and an opportunity to be involved in the exciting next chapter, as we look to ramp up marketing and distribution overseas and move Meli Melo into a global lifestyle brand.”
