Hammerson non-exec director departs as he becomes Debenhams chairman

The owner of shopping centres including Bullring and Grand Central has announced that Terry Duddy is leaving the board of directors following his recent appointment as interim chairman of Debenhams.

Hammerson said the decision had been mutually agreed, with Duddy stepping down as non-executive director and senior independent director with immediate effect.

He was due step down at the company’s AGM in April, as he completed nine years of service on the Hammerson board.

A prominent figure in the retail sector, during his career Duddy was chief executive of Argos, chief executive of Home Retail Group, and chairman of RetailTRUST.

In addition to his departure, Hammerson announced that Gwyn Burr has been appointed as senior independent director with immediate effect, and a search has begun for a new non-executive director.

The company owns and manages 22 shopping centres, 20 premium outlets and 15 retail parks in 14 countries. Its UK portfolio includes the likes of Brent Cross in London, Cabot Circus in Bristol, Victoria Gate in Leeds and Westquay in Southampton.
