Bullring owner Hammerson has appointed Carol Welch to its board of directors. She will join as non-executive director of the property developer on 1 March.

It follows the departure of board member Terry Duddy at the end of January to focus on his new role as interim chairman of Debenhams.

Welch is currently managing director of Odeon Cinemas in the UK and Ireland, and sits on the boards of Digital Cinema Media Limited and UK Cinema Association.

“I am delighted to welcome Carol Welch as a non-executive director. She has extensive marketing and brand experience in global consumer goods businesses and more recent leisure and hospitality experience at Costa Coffee and currently at Odeon Cinemas,” commented David Tyler, chair of the Hammerson board.

“She will bring a valuable occupier perspective as well as a deep understanding of the changing tastes of the UK consumer. We believe that this will allow her to make a significant contribution to our board.”

Welch cut her teeth as a marketing trainee at PepsiCo, and moved on to hold senior roles in marketing, innovation and business transformation at leading consumer goods businesses including Cadbury Schweppes, Associated British Foods and Whitbread.

Most recently, she led the transformation of Costa Coffee as chief marketing officer, and joined Odeon Cinemas in 2017.
