GXO Direct launches warehousing solutions for UK SMEs

Published
Mar 29, 2023

It’s big in the world of UK and Ireland logistics with a client list already including M&S, ASOS, and Matchesfashion. But GXO has now launched GXO Direct in the UK offering shared warehousing solutions for smaller businesses with “immediate access to high-quality space, technology and services at lower cost”.

It also claims to help companies expand sales into new channels, including e-commerce, and sharing resources to help achieve “economies of scale, reduce costs, minimise environmental impact and deliver a better customer experience”.

GXO said this development speaks to several industry themes. This targets UK retailers, especially SMEs (that make up 99% of businesses) that are increasingly looking for ways to cut costs while achieving the same level of efficiency with logistics.

It says these businesses want access to premium warehousing space including technology like collaborative robots, AI-powered sorting and picking systems without incurring the high costs associated with these capabilities.

It focuses on SMEs who don’t need an entire world-class warehouse for their inventory but are faced with smaller warehouses that don’t have the tech, expertise, and services they need.

In the UK and Ireland, Clare Davies, formerly deputy COO of Clipper, will lead the new division.

The company currently offers 30 sites covering the entire UK and serves companies of all sizes across nearly every sector, including Liberty of London and Sosandar.
