Gucci and Milan's Bocconi University launch research laboratory

Gucci and private Milanese university Bocconi announced in a statement the pair have entered in to a three-year partnership for the launched of the Gucci Research Lab. The venture serves as a research centre backed by the Kering-owned Gucci, which is anchored on the "evolution of business in the 21st century." Moreover, the luxury Italian brand is also a 'Strategic Partner' of the school's prestigious economics department.

Four Bocconi professors, supervised by the laboratory director, will teach on the ways businesses can transform themselves to become more digitally fluent. "It's a research project on the digital transformation of business, with a particular focus on the luxury industry," said a spokesman for the faculty.

Researchers will analyse the transformation and organisation generated by new technologies across different elements, such as the mentality of start-ups, the empowerment and autonomy of employees, the propensity to take risks, the speed of decision-making and the agility of processes.

Each year, a report will be published outlining the results of the research, and in relation to a specific theme.

"Results, in which both large and small firms can learn from," stated Marco Bizzarri, CEO of Gucci. "Today, more than ever, a firm's culture can be a point of difference in terms of competitive strength," he added.
