GAP x (RED) announces new partnership
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of (RED), Gap is launching a limited-edition collection of military jackets, each designed in partnership with six of the most innovative female street artists from around the globe. Fifty percent of the profits will go toward engaging businesses and people in the fight against AIDS.
Wendi Goldman, Gap’s executive vice president and chief product officer, told the press: "Gap is thrilled to partner with these talented and visionary women who are each bringing their own creative aesthetic to our iconic utility jacket. We worked closely with (RED) to select artists with diverse points of view who are creating meaningful work that inspires and empowers. Each jacket offers a unique expression that customers can wear with pride to show their commitment to (RED)'s important mission."
Shiro, KASHINK, Kelsey Montague, FAITH XLVII, Olek, and AIKO, were all tapped to create special-edition collaborative pieces for Gap.
Designs start at $128 for boys and girls jackets (designed by Shiro and Kelsey Montague) and $198 for an adult jacket. World renowned crochet installation artist Olek will be creating a woolen, crochet version of the jacket that will retail for $298.
(RED) was founded in 2006 by U2 frontman Bono and Bobby Shriver in an effort to back the fight against AIDS. Since then, the charity has embarked on many big-name collaborations including partnerships with Apple, Beats by Dr. Dre, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Moleskine, and Alex and Ani.
The collection was released on Giving Tuesday, which famously falls the Tuesday after Black Friday. The pieces, available November 29th, were released two days before World Aids Day.
The collection is now available via Gap's e-commerce site.
