Galliano's ode to John Waters

An unlikely meeting of moods in the salons of the Frances-Amériques association on Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt Sunday night. Then again, what did one expect when one attends a John Galliano show?

Comic melodrama met Regency heroines in a quirky yet memorable show from the house, where designer Bill Gaytten gave free expression for his talent as a very clever draper.

“It’s John Waters, and Cry Baby, all that teen romance. We love a little drama in this house,” chuckled the designer over a glass of champagne backstage.

The result - some delightfully naughty largely transparent sleeveless frocks with groovy high-waisted knickers and saucy bras.  Flower embroidered Teddy Boy redingotes; particularly suggestive girl in an after-hours club dressed like a High Court judge - all the looks impressed. Before we went all Mid West high school prom.

After in the ebullient backstage, several cases of champagne and a gang of Italian executives from Renzo Rosso’s empire highly solicitous with Sidney Toledano, the CEO of Christian Dior, who maintains the same position at the house of Galliano. The Italian group has a decade-old kids license with Galliano, which continues to do very well, thank you.
