Freshney Place to get super-sized Primark next year
A giant Primark development in Grimsby, Northern England, will open next summer with the value retailer tripling the size of its current store.
The store, which is the largest project in Grimsby’s Freshney Place Shopping Centre since it opened over a quarter of a century ago will drastically expand the retail space available from the current 10,500 sq ft to 34,200 sq ft across two floors.
The expansion is key for the mall which has been hit recently by the closure of its BHS branch and the decision by menswear store Greenwoods not to renew its lease. Other tenants at the mall include M&S, Clarks, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Lipsy, Next, Topshop and River island.
Freshney Place director Amanda Austin said Primark’s growth will mean an extra 120 retail jobs at the centre.
For the duration of the works, Primark has relocated to a temporary space opposite House of Fraser that used to house WH Smith.
The £4.2m cost of the development is being met by Freshney Place owner BMO – Bank of Montreal Financial Group and will also take in the redevelopment and upgrading of some facilities near the expanded store.
