French fashion platform Patatam has launched in the UK, inviting British shoppers to embrace second-hand clothes as a way to shop more sustainably.

The e-tailer sells a curated selection of high-quality second-hand clothing from brands including Topshop, Zara and River Island at prices 70% less than high street.

Sourced from charity shops, housing clearance centers and the public, each item is hand-checked to ensure it meets the retailer’s standards before being uploaded for sale.

Eric Gagnaire, co-founder at Patatam said: “Following our successful launch in France in 2013, we now feel it is time to bring this concept to the UK. At Patatam, we support those shoppers who want to be fashionable, but do so more ethically, by searching for or selling their pre-loved quality clothing from their favourite high street brands.

“Our mission at Patatam is to reduce the high levels of clothing waste in landfills in the UK,” he continued, adding shoppers can now use the new clothing resale service. Called Patabag, the initiative allows users to sell their unwanted clothing to the company, rather than directly to the public, eliminating the hassle of having to manage all transactions themselves.

The business, which sells women’s and children’s clothing, opened a warehouse in Bretton, Peterborough last year, where it will run its UK operations.
