The memory of the late French couturier superstar is set to dominate this year's edition of France's biggest film awards as the battle of the biopics by Jalil Lespert and Bertrand Bonelleo comes to a head.

On Friday night, all eyes will be on César nominees for Best Actor -- Pierre Niney and Gaspard Ulliel, the two young French actors that were cast to play Yves Saint Laurent in the two biopics.

Both films have been nominated in the categories for best second actor and actress, best costume design and best production design.

Lespert's film "Yves Saint Laurent" was the biggest box office success of the two, attracting 1.6 million viewers, while Bonello's "Saint Laurent" which culminates in YSL's 1976 Ballets russes collection, is a nominee for ten César awards (against 7 for Lespert) this year, including the Best Film category.

All will be revealed Friday night at the star-studded Césars awards ceremony at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

The last time a designer was the focus of a two-for-one biopic in one year was in 2009.

Audrey Tautou played Gabrielle Chanel in Anne Fontaine's "Coco Before Chanel," and Anna Mouglalis starred as the designer in "Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky," directed by Jan Kounen.

Both leading ladies have been Chanel brand ambassadors, like "Saint Laurent" star Gaspard Ulliel who currently fronts Chanel's Bleu de Chanel men's fragrance.
