French Connection names new non-exec director

Published
Mar 30, 2021

French Connection has named a new non-executive director, with Neil Page joining with immediate effect. While the arrival of a non-exec isn’t always the most exciting announcement, the fact that this one comes as a crucial time for the company does make it more interesting.

The loss-making retailer failed in its attempts to sell itself recently but still faces massive challenges as it works out its future strategy. Only this month it announced that it was still considering a sale and sought potential suitors as Spotlight Brands and Gordon Brothers backed out from making an offer after approaching it in February.

It said Neil Page “brings an extensive track record in the retail industry”. Importantly, his experience includes both finance and IT roles. He most recently spent over 10 years as CFO at Carpetright after a number of years as Finance and IT Director of the UK AS Watson Health and Beauty Business, including Superdrug. He’ll become Chairman of the Audit Committee and will be a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Chairman and CEO Stephen Marks said that he “has extensive and relevant experience that will be very useful to us in the future as the group recovers following the pandemic”.
