Former Intu Manchester property Barton Square is rebranded

It was simply known as Barton Square, but the TraffordCity retail, leisure, and entertainment space in Manchester has been renamed Trafford Palazzo.

Newly renamed Trafford Palazzo - The Trafford Centre

The former Intu-owned centre’s rebrand follows its April acquisition by Peel L&P and forms a key element of the regeneration business’s wider masterplan within the TraffordCity area as an experiential retail, leisure and entertainment destination.

The new name for the 330,000 sq ft complex, which was extensively rebuilt in 2019/20, was chosen to reflect the Italian theme of its architecture and design. It features painted Roman murals, 120 statues, a Roman-style courtyard fountain, a glass-domed roof and granite floor finishes. A new floor also added more than 110,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

Already attracting five million visitors a year, Trafford Palazzo is home to an 84,356 sq ft flagship Primark store and a Next Home, plus leisure attractions Legoland Discovery Centre and Sea Life Manchester Aquarium.

Peel L&P said: “Trafford Palazzo will offer quality products and memorable experiences with the very best in retail, leisure and entertainment – much like the bustling and popular Italian squares that provided our inspiration for the rebranding.

“We aim to further improve the recent transformation with this new identity with a purpose and vision to evolve the brand into a best in class and standalone retail and leisure destination offering the foremost diverse and inclusive experiences and adventures.”
