Mango, Flannels, Urban Outfitters and Newbie have committed to opening new stores at Westgate Oxford, while Zara launched at the shopping centre earlier on Friday.

Westgate Oxford manager Landsec said the signings reflect the “desirability” of the retail scheme despite the difficult market conditions.

Over 19 million shoppers visited the shopping centre in its first year, 4 million ahead of predictions. Involving a £440m investment, the shopping centre located in the heart of Oxford opened its doors in October last year.

Zara is the first of the five new retailers to open, unveiling a three-storey 39,500 sq ft store. Mango will follow this Thursday with a 9,700 sq ft store and Urban Outfitters is due to open in an 8,800 sq ft unit on 6 December.

Children’s clothing brand Newbie has taken a 600 sq ft store at the shopping destination, while Flannels will open a 10,600 sq ft destination next to Nespresso and Charles Tyrwhitt in December.

“We’re delighted to be able to introduce Flannels to Westgate, Oxford. A large, affluent catchment, alongside compelling sustainability credentials and an already fantastic retail offer, meant it was a natural choice for our brand. We look forward to opening our doors in December,” commented Carl Tallents, head of brand at Flannels.
