Fashion & Textile Museum announces "Riviera Style" exhibition

Published

The Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey, South London, which was founded by fashion and textile designer Zandra Rhodes, will be hosting the exhibition "Riviera Style: Resort & Swimwear since 1900" from May 22 to August 29.

The exhibition will look at fashionable swimwear from the English seaside to the Côte d'Azur and California, and take in everything from bikinis and burkinis to sarongs and beach pyjamas. It is curated by Dr. Christine Boydell and gets its source material from the archives at Leicestershire County Council, as well as private collections, fashion magazines and trade journals.

Head of the Fashion and Textile Museum, Celia Joicey, said: ‘Thanks to Leicestershire County Council, the UK is guardian to one of the world’s most significant collections of swimwear. We are delighted to be showing these rare examples in London for the first time, and to make them accessible to as many people as possible."
