Famille C, the holding company of the Courtin family, owner of French cosmetics group Clarins, has finalised the acquisition of US make-up brand Ilia, described as a benchmark in the ‘clean’ make-up and skincare segment.

Alongside Famille C, also the Clarins group has bought a minority stake in Ilia, which will remain independent. The brand will in fact continue to be led by founder Sasha Plavsic and CEO Lynda Berkowitz, who will both hold minority stakes in the company.

Ilia was launched in 2011, and is established in some 30 countries, notably via retailers like Mecca, Sephora and Oh My Cream!, and is a highly digitalised brand. In 2021, Ilia generated a revenue of $100 million.

This acquisition, which was approved by the competition authorities, marks a step for Famille C in its drive to establish a foothold in the innovation segment within the beauty and well-being sectors.
