Esteban Cortázar teams up with Farfetch to celebrate his brand's 20th anniversary

Colombian designer Esteban Cortázar looked to the past to celebrate his two decades in the fashion industry. He drew inspiration from his debut collection, presented in New York back in 2002, to dream up a nostalgic and sensual capsule collection created in collaboration with e-commerce giant Farfetch

"I'm very excited to celebrate 20 years in the fashion business by pulling looks from my first show. It's a full circle moment, to go back to my roots where it all started, to celebrate this historic moment in my career," said the 38-year-old Bogota-born designer about his new collection created in collaboration with Farfetch, one of the luxury e-commerce platforms, the eponymous brand has worked with the most in recent years.

Inspired by Miami's nightlife and clubbing scene, the city where Cortázar grew up, the collection features a series of iconic styles worn by celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Ashanti and "Sex and the City" star Kim Cattrall. "There's a nostalgic 2000s vibe sweeping the fashion world at the moment and it seemed like the perfect time to do it," the designer noted about his collection's current relevance.

A total of 14 flowing and bold designs that capture the spirit of the 2000s make up the vibrant and playful capsule collection rendered in colours such as turquoise blue and bright yellow. References to Latin America's sunny weather and TV shows are represented in trendy looks featuring low-cut necklines and cutouts, asymmetrical shapes and bare shoulders or midriffs.

Strapless silk dresses, tiny satin skater skirts, silk chiffon backless mini-dresses and bandeau dresses are now available online with prices ranging from 320 euros for a crop top to 1250 euros for a long draped dress. The collection is part of the "Beat" program launched by Farfetch and aiming to relaunch iconic garments or special collections through collaborations with designers.

"I have known and loved Esteban for over 15 years. His vibrant designs represent pivotal pop culture moments of the 2000s and these iconic pieces are a pure celebration of life and fun that greatly influences fashion as we know it today," said Farfetch brand director Holli Rogers about the exclusive capsule collection, which was unveiled at a party during Art Basel Miami Beach at The Faena Theatre on November 30.

Cortázar was the youngest designer to debut at New York Fashion Week. Only five years later, he was appointed head designer of the French maison Emanuel Ungaro. This two-year stint brought him to Paris, where he presented his namesake brand's collections until 2019, when he abandoned the traditional fashion week calendar to better concentrate on launching other projects and organising pop-up events.

Since then, Cortázar has, among other endeavours, designed costumes for the New York City Ballet and unveiled a high-profile collaboration with Desigual.
